Rieko Uchida / architect
Rieko is the founder and head of the Morizo - Architectural Design firm, with offices in Osaka and Berlin. Her goal is to create designs that enrich people’s lives by utilizing natural materials and artisanal craftsmanship, and to create Japanese-style rooms that fit the Berlin lifestyle.

Washitsu in Berlin
This exhibition features a collaboration project between Rieko Uchida and the illustrator WAGON to build a Washitsu into an otherwise typical Berliner apartment.
Rieko Uchida designed the project and will be showing the process and models used.

Washitsu illustrations by WAGON
WAGON, in whose apartment the room will be installed, will show how she uses the room through a series of moving illustrations.
“We hope that other Berliners will be able to imagine more realistically what it would be like to have a Washitsu in their own home. By showing a part of daily life, we hope people will become more familiar with and come to understand how a Washitsu can be enjoyed."
Project UTSUWA
Project Utsuwa is a multinational open network of professionals from various fields with a strong appreciation for Japanese culture, traditional craftsmanship and innovation. With a minimalistic philosophy our goal is to reinvent a traditional Japanese room (Washitsu, 和室) for the purpose of building a real life and digital network of creatives and innovators from different fields.
